Objectives

Individual Learning Session: Risk Management: Risk Assessment and Positive Risk Taking

At the end of this session you will:

  • Be familiar with the basic principles associated with good practice in relation to the identification, assessment and management of risk.
  • Have an understanding of the difference between traditional risk assessment and risk enablement/positive risk taking and be able to identify and know the circumstances in which it is appropriate to use each of these approaches.
  • Be able to link their learning with associated topics such as self-directed support, personalisation and health and safety.
  • Be able to transfer their learning by directly applying it to their practice.
The learning objectives in this session link in to the following units:
  • Care Certificate:
    • 7.3 Support an individual's right to make choices:
      • 7.3b - Explain how risk assessment processes can be used to support the right of individuals to make their own decisions
    • 7.4 Support individuals in making choices about their care:
      • 7.4b - Ensure any risk assessment processes are used to support the right of individuals to make their own decisions
