Objectives

Individual Learning Session: Caring for a Dying Person

At the end of this session you will:

  • Explain and apply the fundamental values and principles upon which good quality end of life care is based
  • Explain why it is essential to apply the Equality Act in relation to work which involves supporting people and their loved ones through the end of life process
  • Explain the importance of providing person-centred personalised support for the dying person and their carers, friends and relatives
  • Explain the importance of providing support to mourners through the bereavement process
  • Know where to locate and how to apply any relevant organisational policy and practice guidance on end of life care
  • Engage in reflective practice
  • Use the self-evaluation form and identify, together with their supervisor, further learning needs in relation to the skills, values and knowledge in relation to the topics covered in the session
The learning objectives in this session link in to the following units:
