Objectives

Individual Learning Session: Reminiscence Work - Memory and Creativity

At the end of this session you will:

  • Be able to explain why reminiscence-focused discussion and activities are beneficial to older people.
  • Be able to explain the significance of reminiscence work to person-centred practice.
  • Have explored their own creative talents in order to be able to apply them to reminiscence work.
  • Have a knowledge of resources which they can use to enhance the reminiscence opportunities they make available to service users.
  • Have completed an activity and an assignment in which they have engaged with an older person or group of older people in reminiscence work.
  • Have evaluated in the light of their self-assessment and the assessment of others, (using Scils' recommended pro-forma from the website), their knowledge of the subject and its practical application and identified further learning and development needs to improve them further.
  • Have a basic understanding of co-evaluation and co-production and know how they can use these to empower service users and to improve the quality of the services provided to them.
