Objectives

Individual Learning Session: Autism - An Introduction

At the end of this session you will:

  • be able to demonstrate that they have a basic understanding of autistic spectrum disorder
  • be able to explain and demonstrate the importance of having a person-centred individualised approach to supporting people with autism and understand how this ties in with working to the social model of disability
  • know appropriate and inappropriate techniques for supporting people with autism and for keeping them safe
  • be familiar with current law and policy which is in place to ensure that people with autism and their informal carers receive appropriate services
The learning objectives in this session link in to the following units:
  • Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings:
    • Group B - optional:
      • Intro OP 1.4 - Introduction to Autistic Spectrum Condition


  • Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities:
